The City of Pelham is supported by numerous departments. Each department is unique and important in its role to support the community. Departments include the following: Administration (clerical support, accounting/financial support), Court, Engineering (City Engineer), Building Inspections & GIS, Revenue, Human Resources, Facilities Maintenance & Landsacpe, Library, Parks & Recreation, Public Works (laborers for maintenance and repair of streets and other community areas), and Garage (mechanics to support operation and maintenance of all city vehicles), Police, and Fire. Current Opportunities:

PAYROLL & BENEFITS ANALYST ~  The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the full time position of Payroll & Benefits Analyst in the Human Resources department.  This position includes, but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:

Must be able to establish and maintain a working relationship with the general public and employees”

  • Reviews, personnel records to determine names, rates of pay, and occupations of newly hired workers, and changes in wage rates and occupations of employees on payroll.  Records new or changed pay rates; computes pay according to company policy.
  • Maintains employee benefits data. Communicates information to employees about benefits programs, procedures, changes, etc. Performs general office duties such as maintaining records management systems, and performing basic accounting work.
  • Responsible for reconciling all benefit payments/invoices each month.
  • Keep informed for changes in payroll law, tax law and deductions law that may apply to the payroll process.  Supports tax filings and payments as required.

Requirements:  Must have 2 to 3 years’ experience in payroll processes, and Quarterly 941 tax filing; must have intermediate to proficient computer skills and software adaptability; background in HRIS database preferred, but not required.

Salary and benefits beginning at $47,000.00 depending on experience, education, credentials and certifications.

MANAGER ON DUTY ~ The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the full time position of Manager On Duty for the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena.  This job involves managing the recreation establishment to provide entertainment to the public by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees, such as, but not limited to:

Managing nightly operations and part-time employees; maintaining optimal functionality of two ice rinks and banquet hall; maintaining assignments and work schedules for part-time employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may  include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

-        Responsible for nightly clean-up; ice resurfacing; assessing problems and situations to handle to completion; forklift operation; snorkel lift operations

-        Responsible for support of banquet set up and breakdown for functions and events; setting up stages, sports floor and basketball floors, set up and removal of rink board.

High school diploma or GED required.  One to three years supervisory experience preferred, with leadership and organization skills, assigning and directing work, performance reviews and addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Valid driver’s license required.

Salary and benefits beginning at $36.000.00, depending on experience, education, and other training.

APOSTC POLICE OFFICER ~ The Pelham Police Department is now accepting applications for an APOSTC certified police officer. You must have a minimum of two years experience. College education is not required but preferred. Applicant must have a current Alabama Drivers License or the ability to obtain one. You must meet eligibility requirements for accessing certain confidential records along with the ability to legally possess and carry a handgun. Salary and benefits beginning at $44,000.00. The department is looking for a self motivated individual seeking employment with a professional law enforcement agency.
