Class Information

The Pelham Skating School offers ice skating classes for students of all ages and levels.  Beginning levels of ice skating are taught through the guidelines of USFSA (United States Figure Skating Association).  Whether the skater’s interest lies in healthy competition or simply in recreation and exercise, the Pelham Skating School provides professional training.

Group classes are offered on a 6 or 7 week schedule meeting once a week.

Classes include:

  • 10 minutes off ice supervised warm-up
  • 30 minutes on ice class instruction (Tots will receive 20 minutes of instruction)
  • 30 minutes practice before or after class
  • Free skate rental on class day

Class Age Groupings:

  • Tots - 3, 4, and 5 year olds
  • Basic Skills - 6 - 14 year olds
  • Adults - 15 years and up
  • Synchronized Team - 15 years and up

The cost is $10.00 per class with the full term payment due before the beginning of the first class.  A $20.00 registration fee will be charged once a year. This registration fee will include USFSA Basic Skills membership.

Professional Staff

The Skating School Staff provides a highly qualified coaching staff under the direction of Danny Tate, Skating Director. All coaches on staff are members of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA), the governing body for figure skating in the United States, Professional Skaters Association (PSA), the international organization of teaching and performing professionals or the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), an international organization for the recreational skater.

Class Day

Each class day all students must sign in at the skate school window. On the first day of class, students should arrive 15 minutes early in order to complete any paper work necessary.

USFSA Badges

As students progress through the Basic Skills levels, badges may be purchased at the skate school office. These badges indicate each level of achievement.

What to Wear

Children need gloves or mittens. Sweat suits are recommended, or any long pants, as long as they are not confining. As rink temperatures vary, dressing in layers is a good idea. Socks should be thin rather than thick.

Refunds

Refunds are issued up to the end of the first week of classes. All refunds are subject to a $20.00 administration fee.

Make Up Passes

All class skaters making up a missed class must present a make-up pass to the instructor on the ice. A make-up pass may be obtained from the skate school office. No make ups will be allowed after the last class of the term.

Private Lessons

Private lessons may be arranged as a supplement to classes after advancing to Basic Skills Level 6. Private lessons are taught on FreeStyle ice only. This ice time may be purchased at the skate school office.
