Pelham Flag Day Celebration
The City of Pelham and the Cahaba Valley Elks will celebrate Flag Day on June 14, 2009, with a free concert by the Blackwood Quartet at 3:00 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Music Center. All branches of the military will be recognized in a special ceremony and flag presentation. “We’re excited about this family-friendly concert and so proud of our flag and our country,” says Elks’ President Liz Bishop. “Pelham is such a patriotic community, we knew this would be the perfect place to host this free concert for the public.”
Pelham Mayor Don Murphy says, “We’re so pleased they chose Pelham for this all-American event. I think our residents and others from the area will enjoy the free entertainment on this Flag Day holiday.”
Ron Blackwood, head of the Blackwood Quartet, says, “This special Flag Day will be unforgettable for all of us. We love to sing patriotic songs that raise people’s spirits, bring smiles to their faces and express our pride in our country.” Blackwood and his family have accumulated 9 Grammys, 27 Dove Awards and 5 American Music Awards, while selling millions of recordings worldwide. The group has been featured on several Gaither Homecoming videos, as well as the recent movies, “Walk the Line” and “W”.
Large group seating can be arranged through Ron Stutts at 205-919-2139.
