School Related Traffic Issues

The onset of the new school year brings with it unique traffic related challenges as more commuters take to the roadways in Pelham during the morning rush hour.  Although this is not a new phenomenon to our commuters, this year will be particularly busy.  Roadway construction through the I-65 corridor will no doubt again serve as prominent hurdle this year.  The County Road 52 exchange is one particular area of interest.  The County 52 bridge widening project is still underway and may serve to hamper an already congested area that is heavily affected by the commuter load and roadway construction.  Traditionally, within a few weeks of the start of school, these delays see some relief.  Motorist should be mindful of others and obey all traffic laws. The blocking of intersections by motorist has been identified as a major factor in causing backup and hindering the smooth and orderly flow of traffic.  Pelham PD will be monitoring the heavy traffic areas and intersections and will take enforcement actions as necessary to ensure the safety of motorist and construction workers.   Residents and commuters are encouraged to be patient and add extra time in their morning commutes.
