Tuesday for the Ballantrae / Mobley Development $25,000 Challenger Presented by Academy Sports & Outdoors at the Pelham Racquet Club means the start of main draw play in both singles and doubles. Along with the usual fierce competition among the top women’s tennis touring professionals there will be several matches with added interest and appeal to local tennis fans. Local favorite Christy Striplin, now a freshman at Georgia Tech, will play in the day session. The former Brook Highland resident will open her tournament against Francesca Lubiani. The evening feature match will have University of Alabama’s #1 doubles team, Ashley Bentley and Robin Stephenson competing in the main draw of doubles. Ashley and Robin are riding a 30 match win streak this Fall and their match will begin no earlier than 6:00 PM. In the Noon matches Sarah Taylor, formerly ranked in the top 50 in the world, will play as she works to return from injury and regain her past high ranking.
