Authorized Burning
The Fire Prevention Bureau of the Pelham Fire Department issues Burn Permits to authorize outdoor burning within the corporate limits of the City of Pelham. From May 1 through September 30 of each year there is no authorized burning within the city limits of Pelham. This is in accordance with a mandate from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
To obtain a commercial burning permit, please come to Fire Station #1, 3162 Pelham Parkway (behind city hall), during the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
For all residents of the city who wish to burn at their residences, we ask that you call before burning to advise us of your intent and location. You may call (205) 620-6500 during the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Ozone Alert
When an Ozone alert has been issued , the Pelham Fire Department will display the Ozone Alert Flag beneath the American Flag at Fire Station #1 located directly behind Pelham City Hall.
Emergency Warning Sirens
The City is pleased to provide emergency warning sirens to help notify residents when weather or national emergency situations occur. The sirens are tested the first Monday of every month at 10 A.M.
Tornado: Uninterrupted blast with a gradual rise and fall in sound as speaker turns 360 degrees. Short break before each series begins anew. Total duration of cycle is approximately three minutes.
Flood: Rapid alternating high and low tone (short and rapid, similar to fire drill alarm in school). Total cycle time from high to low and back to high is approximately one second. Total duration of cycle is three minutes.
National Emergency: Rapid rise and fall wailing tone (similar to old air raid sirens). Total cycle time from high to low and back to high is approximately three seconds. Siren will continue until canceled by National Defense.
If you hear a warning siren sound, there is definitely justifiable cause to take cover or appropriate action.
