Pelham Firefighters Assist in Shuttle Recovery Efforts
2/25/2003  Six firefighters deployed to help - UPDATE
Six Pelham firefighters have gone to Texas to help with recovery efforts following the shuttle disaster.  Chief Gary Waters, Captain Danny Ray, Lieutenant Bill Smith, Firefighter Todd McCarver, Firefighter Jim Wells, and Firefighter Pete Gonzalez have been deployed with the US Forest Service.  These men will be serving as medics with ground support teams that are actively searching for debris from the space shuttle Columbia.  These men were originally scheduled for a deployment of approximately 16 days, but their tour has been extended for approximately 7 more days.  Crews have faced heavy rain, winter weather, and a host of other obsticles in their search for key pieces of the space shuttle Columbia.
