The advantage of getting to the net to pressure your opponent or close out a point requires mobility and control of your strokes. A great drill to help you develop and hone these skills is the volley & overhead drill. With a partner to work out with position yourself straddling the center service line about midway in the service box. Have your partner in the middle of the court about at the baseline. Your partner will then feed you a forehand volley, you should volley the ball to  your forehand side to the corner of your opponent's court. Then run up and touch the net with your racquet and start to backpeddle, your partner then throws up a lob for you to back up and hit an overhead to the other corner. After hitting the overhead your partner will repeat the sequence for half a hopper of balls and then switch to the backhand side for the remaining balls in the hopper. After a hopper, recover and feed your partner the same drill. This is an exhausting and effective drill that will make your net game stronger to close out your opponents quicker!
